Learning Without Tears®: A Multisensory Approach to Early Writing and Learning

What Is Learning Without Tears®?

Learning Without Tears® (LWT) is a developmentally appropriate, multisensory curriculum designed to help children build strong foundations for handwriting, fine motor skills, and early academic success. The program uses hands-on materials, movement, music, and visual supports to make learning engaging and accessible for children of all abilities.

Who Benefits from Learning Without Tears®?

Learning Without Tears® is especially helpful for children who:

  • Struggle with handwriting or letter formation
  • Have difficulty with fine motor skills or visual-motor integration
  • Experience challenges with attention, regulation, or motor planning
  • Have developmental delays, learning differences, or sensory processing needs

How Speech Therapists and Occupational Therapists Use Learning Without Tears®

Both speech therapists and occupational therapists incorporate Learning Without Tears® into therapy sessions to support a child’s overall communication and learning skills.

  • Occupational therapists focus on posture, grip strength, fine motor coordination, and sensory integration needed for writing.
  • Speech therapists support language development, letter–sound awareness, sequencing, and following directions during writing and classroom tasks.

By working together, therapists help children develop the physical and cognitive skills required for successful written communication.

Why We Use Learning Without Tears®

We use Learning Without Tears® because it:

  • Follows a developmental progression
  • Engages multiple senses to support learning
  • Reduces frustration and builds confidence
  • Aligns with school expectations and classroom instruction

Our goal is to make writing feel achievable and enjoyable while supporting the underlying skills children need for long-term academic success.
